Buddhism throughout the history has been played a role of native religion in opposition to Vedic Brahmanism and later Hinduism. Buddhism has always been a popular socio-cultural religious movement because of its concern over the social questions of the day. Buddhism as an ethical culture has been maintaining its presence in the Indian society from the ages. The modern Buddhist phenomena contains both continuity and change the continuity in the form of philosophy, religious system, cultural symbols, ethical values and also in the form of art, architecture, sculpture, painting and literature etc. and change in the form of culture of accommodation of various belief systems wherever it has traveled so far. A question is generally asked as to what has been the impact of Buddhism on its new adherents, the people who has responded to the clarion call given by Dr. Ambedkar, and embraced Buddhism. Why Dr. Ambedhar has embraced Buddhism? What are the important objectives behind embracing Buddhism? Have neo-Buddhist reached the expected goal of Dr B.R.Ambedkar? In this study it has been tried to find out the role and relevance of embracing Buddhism and its effect on the social, economic, religious and cultural life of neo-Buddhist. The study highlights the relationship and the reasons behind the close association between the Dalit and Buddhism in Uttar Pradesh, the most populated state of Indian continent. Behind the strong association there are mainly three reasons. First, the ruling of Bahujan Samaj Party ideology of cultural change, secondly the vision of Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar to make the country Buddhist India and thirdly growth rate of Buddhist community due to the conversion of Dalit to Buddhism. The neo-Buddhist has come down due to embracing Buddhism. Now they are having fresh positive identity which gives them confidence for survival in the society. Especially youth among neo-Buddhists having a new sense of understanding. They have adopted rational and scientific view of life by ignoring superstition. They are developing day by day in all sphere of life after embracing Buddhism. The important things which can be seen in neo-Buddhists is radical change in the blind faith to rationalism which has change the mind set for getting education and knowledge. |
