Summary, etc |
The study aimed to explore the implementation and perceptions of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in India, as well as its impact on the quality of life of beneficiaries, village economies, and participatory community development processes. The study also analyzed issues related to labor availability, development work needs, access to participation, socio-economic structures, and the impact of the scheme on existing social relations.

The study found that MNREGA is a lifeline for rural people who earn their livelihood as wage earners. It has helped to improve social relationships and reduce gender differences in wages, as well as increase female participation in work. The study also revealed that most households earned their livelihood as unskilled casual laborers and had a pathetic asset position. MNREGA provided hard cash to needy people, allowing them to purchase essential items for their food basket. However, the success of the program depends on the implementing wings.

In conclusion, the study recommends modifications to the MNREGA scheme, including the provision of more skilled labor opportunities and asset creation. The study suggests that MNREGA should continue to prioritize the needs of the poorest households and improve the implementation process to increase access to the program. Overall, the study highlights the positive impact of MNREGA on rural livelihoods and social relationships, while also identifying areas for improvement to enhance the program's effectiveness. |
