Dynamics of international out-migration from Punjab : report on PIMS - Chandigarh Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development 2015 - xxvi, 219p.

Punjab is one among few Indian states that are significantly characterised by strong international mobility. As one among seven major states leading the international out-migration from India, Punjab is living testimony to the culture of migration that permeates the life in the Punjabi society. With a history of sustained migration for more than 125 years - beginning primarily during colonial rule of India the Punjab transnational life has been eventful and dynamic for a variety of reasons. Regular emigration, beginning in the erstwhile Punjab of the undivided India, and continuing unabated to selected countries of North America, Europe, Oceania, East Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle east, led to formation of the global Punjabi diaspora of around 2.0-2.5Million.
