The caste discrimination in Indian society is generally portrayed by western scholars as if it is the unique feature of Indian society. But, this is not so. This book is an attempt to compare it with race discrimination in the United States. The author concludes that the advances made by dalits in India have been much greater than those made by blacks in the United States. At the same time, much greater efforts have been made in that country to bring out the latent potential of black sportsmen, musicians, literateurs, etc. In India, similar efforts need to be made to promote budding talent among the dalits. This book is an important contribution to the debate among Indian dalits as it has been written from a dalit author’s perspective on the western society.
