520 _aThe present investigation is really very valuable addition to the treasure of stress and stress coping strategies. It is relatively an emerging field of health psychology in India. Stress and stress coping was measured in working and working women so it has been also become the part of organisational behaviour and industrial psychology. Therefore, the present investigation provides an excellent evidence fould prove beneficial to the researcher who are interested in research in this field. The dramatic change that have taken place in society over the last decade or two that work and life stress has become more immediate focal point of interest. This interest has reflected itself in an ever increasing research orientation into occupational stress, the impact of life events, stress and disease etc. With a burgeoning and disparate range of investigations being undertaken in to the sources and manifestations of stress. In our time characterized by a rapid increase in the rate of medical and social developments, research on stress and adaptation to change assumes particular importance in health and disease. We can no longer count on 'having finished our training' for our work or on 'having arrived at our goal' in society. Nowadays, everyone seems to be talking about stress. You hear it not only in daily conversation but also through television, radio, newspapers and the ever increasing number of conferences, at stress centers, and university courses devoted to the topic. Yet remarkably few people define the concept in the same way or even bother to attempt a clear cut definition. The word stress, like success, failure, or happiness means different things to different people and, except for a few specialized scientists, no one has really tried to define it, although it has become a part of our daily vocabulary. Is it effort fatigue, pain, fear, the need for concentration, the humiliation of censure. Competition and uncertainties of modern life, unemployment and job insecurity, all such factors have made life increasingly stressful. Researchers have proved, stress, directly or indirectly as a correlate of coronary heart disease, cancer, lung ailments, accidental injuries, cirrhosis of lever and suicide in the world. Although we all talk about stress, it often isn't clear, what stress is really about. Selye introduced the concept of stress in 1956. They are known as the grand master of stress research and theory. Let's see how psychologists have conceptualized stress and what the prevailing definition is today.
